Bigger and Better Dreams: 2 Ways to Achieve Them

Do you dream? You know what I mean. Big ambitions. Massive goals. Huge intentions. I truly hope you do. Whether you are thinking about life, the future, or are bringing up wonderful thoughts from your imagination.

But what happens when your dream isn’t coming true? You’ve been following the laws of attraction. Manifesting. You’ve read The Secret, and followed thought leaders like Gabrielle Bernstein, Deepak Chopra, and Eckhart Tolle. But it’s not working.

Could it be instead that your hopes are a source of light or inspiration for something else? Perhaps your bigger, better dream is waiting for you. Maybe, just maybe, something else is coming around the corner. But you’re going to need courage and patience and understand that the purpose of your thought may be to help you find your way to something even bigger and better ahead.

Your Dreams Are Not Meant to Be Achieved

Let me share a story with you. When I was a little girl, I had a massive goal of being a doctor. I’m not even sure why. By the time I was in the final years of high school, I realized that to get into Med School, I would need to score in the top 1% of the state during final exams. Fast forward, I didn’t get the grades. I felt like the biggest failure. Like there was something wrong with me because I studied so hard, yet it wasn’t enough.

So my career went along another path. And I accepted the path. But over the years that followed, I kept wishing and wondering what it would take to be a doctor. After all, my sister was able to pivot from her first career and went to Dentistry School as a mother of three. Why couldn’t I do the same? Was I not smart enough? Not brave enough? Was I too lazy?

Maybe, just maybe, this ambition of being a doctor wasn’t meant to be achieved. But guess what. This big wish helped me navigate to what would become my new aspiration. I studied and graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy rather than a Doctor of Medicine. Because sometimes, your dreams are not meant to be achieved. And that’s alright. Maybe those hopes from the little girl or a little boy that you once were, or your teacher or parents or friends, are your beacon to guide you to an even better purpose and outcome.

Your Dreams Will Find You

Even though it might seem hard to believe, your hopes will always find you.

My ambition to become a doctor felt like a far-off, pie-in-the-sky fantasy for many years. I remember the negative feelings and wanting to give up on those goals. But I would keep saying, “there must be something better that’s coming.” And once I understood that desires aren’t necessarily there to be achieved, but instead, they are there to help prepare to face your fears, you can have confidence that your wishes will find you.

And there will be something even better waiting for you. Something that you can’t even imagine. That’s exactly what happened to me. Building a career as a corporate executive, living in different countries, and traveling the world. And above all, helping people. Lots of people. The beauty of working for big companies is that the influence is exponential.

I often reflect back on my old dreams. And here’s what I realize. The ambitions of the little girl just weren’t big enough for me. I needed this drive to pull me through my fear and to learn how to do the work. To give me something bigger to work for. And to activate something even better and bigger inside of me.

Key Takeaways

So keep working. You will be rewarded, and your dreams will come true. And there will be days where you wonder, “when will this happen?”. On those days, just remember that something better is on it’s way. Because it is coming. Believe me.
